Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikha Fatima Bint Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy and Chairwoman of the Abu Dhabi Ladies Club, the FBMA is pleased to announce the organization of the 2ndPhysical Education (PE) Teachers’ Forum, which will be held on 28 September 2016 at the Al Forsan International Sports Resort in Abu Dhabi.

 Objective:

Following the positive public response to last year’s inaugural session, and through its partnership with the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) and the Abu Dhabi Sports Council (ADSC), the PE Teachers’ Forum aims to establish a tradition for Abu Dhabi’s physical education sector. Organized over two thematic sessions, and combining the theoretical fundamentals of PE withcomplementary applied practice workshops, the Forum will host highly-esteemed academics with valuable expertise in the field to engage PE teachers across Abu Dhabi in a fruitful exchange on the teaching methods of Physical Education in the schools of the UAE.

 Program :

The Forum will evolve around the two following thematic areas, guided by presentations of distinguished international professors in the sports field:

  • “Episodic teaching using the Spectrum of Teaching Styles

Dr. Nikolaos Digelidis, Associate Professor at the School of Physical Education and Sport Sciences, University of Thessaly, Greece.

During the first lecture,Dr. Digelidis will discuss the application of the ‘Spectrum of Teaching Styles’ theory in Physical Education. Participants will experience a variety of alternative teaching styles in different motor skills, as they will engage in at least four of the following five Spectrum teaching styles: command (A), reciprocal (C), practice (B), combination practice/inclusion (B/E), and divergent discovery (H). Task sheets will be made available to the Spectrum workshop participants.

  • “Optimal trainability during childhood and adolescence”
Dr. Taysir Mansi, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Physical Education, University of Jordan.

During the second presentation, Dr. Mansiwill introduce participants to the Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model, whose 7 stages reflect the biological and chronological development of children and adolescents aged 6 to 18 years. The LTAD model provides a training, competition, and recovery program based on the physical, mental, emotional, and cognitive development and can be extremely useful to PE teachers in their mission to identify and nurture athletic talent from a young age. The lecture will discuss the trainability of the physical (speed, coordination, endurance, strength, flexibility), technical, tactical and personality (the mental, cognitive, and emotional development) abilities.
