YAS MARINA CIRCUIT WELCOMES BACK ‘CIRCUITS ON THE CIRCUIT’ IN SUPPORT OF FEMALE CANCER AWARENESS CHARITIES

‘Circuits on the Circuit’ initiative returns to GoYAS at Yas Marina Circuit to raise money and drive awareness of breast cancer in the UAE

Yas Marina Circuit, Abu Dhabi, 22 October, 2015: Hundreds of women clocked up the kilometres at Yas Marina Circuit yesterday evening in a charity fitness event for breast cancer awareness.

Now in its second year, ‘Circuits on the Circuit’ gave women the chance to raise money by completing circuit training challenges led by the Nike Training Club, as well as receiving free breast cancer screening tests and educational information about women’s health.

Circuits on the Circuit is a special initiative by the Fatima bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy, sponsored by Daman Activelife and was hosted at Yas Marina Circuit during GoYAS, the female-only health and fitness initiative held at the track every Wednesday.

“We’re delighted to be building on the success of last year’s event and to raise more funds and awareness for such a worthy cause,” said Dr. Omniyat Al Hajeri, a board member Fatima bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy and Director of Health at Health Authority - Abu Dhabi.

“We’re determined to play a leading role in building greater awareness within the UAE of women’s cancers and how the risks of global killers like breast cancer can be avoided or minimised through early detection.

“It was fantastic to see so many women take part in a fun community event and to enjoy such a wide variety of fitness activities and health education.”

Participants got the chance to take part in free circuit training classes run by the Nike Training Club – a new initiative for this year’s event. Every time they completed one of the ribbon-shaped grass circuits, AED25 was donated on their behalf by FBMLA, Yas Marina Circuit, and Daman.

Meanwhile, Yas Marina Circuit Village was transformed into a giant health expo with information booths run by organisation including Pink Caravan, Healthpoint, Health Authority Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi Sports Council, and Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi. There were also healthy food and beverages on offer, as well as displays by the UAE federations for jiu-jitsu, handball and archery.

The regular GoYAS offering of running, walking or cycling on the track were available to participants. All collections from bike rentals went to charity courtesy of Fun Ride Sports.

“We were very pleased to see the return of ‘Circuits on the Circuit’ for its second year,” said Al Tareq Al Ameri, CEO of Yas Marina Circuit.

“GoYAS, our female-only Wednesday night activity at Yas Marina Circuit, has significantly increased in the last year and it’s important we use this growing community to raise awareness of women’s health issues and prevent loss of life.”

GoYAS is run under the patronage of Fatima bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy and has generated a strong UAE National female following, with 90 per cent of attendees being UAE Nationals. Held every Wednesday between 6pm – 9pm, entry is free but requires registration for membership on the Yas Marina Circuit website: www.yasmarinacircuit.com.
