Al Qalamoun and Fatayat Al Oyoun Reach the Final of the Fatima Bint Mubarak Academy Volleyball Cup for Ladies 2024

The Al Qalamoun Lebanese team and the Fatayat Al Oyoun Kuwaiti team have advanced to the final match of the Fatima Bint Mubarak Academy Volleyball Cup for Ladies 2024, which is held under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, known as the "Mother of the Nation." The event was also organized under the guidance of Sheikha Fatima bint Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy, and Chairwoman of both the Abu Dhabi Ladies Club and the Al Ain Ladies Club
The Al Qalamoun team secured their place in the final after defeating the Fatima Bint Mubarak Academy volleyball team 3-1 in the semi-final match, held at the academy’s headquarters. Despite the academy team winning the first set 25-23, the experience of the Al Qalamoun team, led by Captain Mirna Sheikhou, allowed them to turn the match around and win the next three sets with scores of 25-18, 25-16, and 25-21.
In a statement after the match, Captain Mirna Sheikhou expressed her happiness at reaching the final, saying: "We are extremely proud to have reached this advanced stage of the tournament. The competition has been fierce from the start, but we worked with great focus and effort to achieve this goal. Our preparations were intensive, and we are very excited for the final. Our goal now is to win the title, and while we know the challenge will be tough, we are confident in our abilities and tactical plans."
On the other side, the Fatayat Al Oyoun Kuwaiti team reached the final after their semi-final match against Egypt’s "6th of October" team, which ended in a 3-1 victory for the Kuwaiti team in an exciting contest. The set scores were 25-23, 22-25, 26-24, and 25-23, securing the Kuwaiti team’s spot in the final.
Dr. Hesham El-Gioushy, head of the 6th of October Club’s delegation, expressed his great appreciation to the UAE and the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy for their warm hospitality and excellent organization, saying: "We thank the United Arab Emirates for the distinguished hosting of this tournament. The organization was excellent, and the atmosphere was ideal for the participating teams. We are grateful for this opportunity provided by the academy and look forward to returning and participating in future tournaments."
The Fatima Bint Mubarak Academy Volleyball Cup for Ladies is considered a key regional sporting platform, attracting the top women's teams from the region to promote the role of women in sports. The current edition of the tournament saw fierce competition among the teams, with Al Qalamoun topping the group stage after achieving three consecutive victories without any losses, while Fatayat Al Oyoun placed second with two wins and one loss.
This tournament is one of the most prominent women’s sports events organized by the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy, which aims to enhance women’s participation in sports and provide the necessary support for women’s teams, in line with the UAE’s visionary leadership in empowering women across various fields.
